The Movement for Podgorica condemned the "unacceptable and dangerous statements" of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economic Development Nikola Đeljošaj, who, they claim, made threats to the President of Montenegro, Jakov Milatović.
"Such an approach is unacceptable, dangerous and extremely irresponsible for a holder of a high state office. Threats to the president due to his constitutionally guaranteed right to return a law for reconsideration represent a direct attack on the constitutional order in the country. Đeljošaj, whose actions have already been the subject of criticism even within the ruling majority, has now crossed every line – using threats and calling for a 'reaction of Albanians at all levels'. The Albanian people have been known throughout history for honesty, integrity and loyalty, not for blackmail and threats, and someone who calls himself a 'general' should know something about that," the statement reads.
The Movement for Podgorica demands the immediate resignation or dismissal of Đeljošaj from all state positions, believing that his behavior discredits the Government and threatens the stability of the country. They also demand an immediate reaction from the Police Directorate regarding the "threats made to the President of the State", as well as an "investigation into Đeljošaj's alleged participation in illegal communications".
"It is clear to us that Đeljošaj's actions are not accidental - he has been involved in controversial affairs for many years, including the alleged illegal collection of taxes by the Municipality of Tuzi from the company '13. jul Plantaže', and Montenegro is not and will not be a hostage to anyone's personal interests," they added.
They say that Milatović acted in accordance with the Constitution and say that "any attempt at blackmail and intimidation will not succeed."
"If the president is threatened today, tomorrow every citizen who dares to think differently may be threatened. We call on all citizens and institutions to stand in the way of such irresponsible politicians. Institutions are stronger than the self-proclaimed 'generals', and his threats cannot scare either the citizens or the president, and ultimately not even the justice that will knock on his door," the statement reads.
