DPS Kotor: The authorities find it hard to stand that the people of Kotor show their attitude towards the authorities through the spirit of carnival

The Municipal Committee (MC) of the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) Kotor assessed that an unprecedented scandal occurred last night at the Kotor Carnival when the Police Department interrupted the event at the moment when a masquerade group wearing masks that alluded to the character and work of Minister Slaven Radunović was to perform, due to his, as they said, shameful statement that a referendum should be held to review whether Kotor needs UNESCO status.

"This is the first time in history that the carnival procession has been interrupted, and the reasons are more than obvious - those who govern the country today do not understand the spirit of the carnival, just as they do not understand the importance of the existence and continuation of Kotor on the UNESCO list. The authorities, in their arrogance, find it difficult to bear that the people of Kotor show their relationship to the government through the spirit of the carnival, that they express their opinion in the most creative way about what decision-makers (in) this country do and that they are critical of their image and work," the statement states.

The DPS Kotor Local Government Organization said that, in a country where the government is trying to ban the right to protest, to stifle any form of civil rebellion, to intimidate anyone who dares to express their opinion about its misdeeds, including through the creation and operation of the party police, it is not surprising that those in power, obviously frightened by Kotor's song and dance, are interrupting carnival processions, unwilling to tolerate the critical thought of the citizens of Kotor and Montenegro.

They added that "those who do not understand carnivals, masquerades, and fasinades cannot be expected to understand the value of Kotor's centuries of history and culture."

"Well, we still tell them - you cannot stifle the Kotor carnival spirit, this carnival will live on, just like Kotor on the UNESCO list, no matter how much it bothers you. Kotor has survived forces much greater than you. It will also survive you from the current government, the unworthy positions that you have been given, from which you are trying to embarrass both this city and this country," concludes the statement of the Kotor DPS branch office.
