Kalač: Bosniak Party to leave the ruling coalition immediately and without delay

In light of the increasingly pronounced nationalist and historically revisionist narratives coming from part of the current government in Montenegro, we believe that it is the political and moral responsibility of the Bosniak Party to immediately and without delay leave the ruling coalition, announced today the president of the Municipal Committee of the Social Democrats (SD) Rožaje and representative of the European Union, Alen Kalač.

"Some of its coalition partners: deny the adjudicated genocide in Srebrenica, do not recognize the independence of the Republic of Kosovo, undermine the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Bosnia and Herzegovina, through open support for the secessionist policy of the leadership of the entity Republika Srpska, and at the same time rehabilitate the Chetnik ideology, through symbolic and political acts such as today's erection of a monument to Pavle Đurišić in Zaostra," said Kalač.

According to him, Pavle Đurišić is not a historical figure who deserves a monument, but rather the commander of a criminal formation responsible for the massacre of thousands of Bosniak civilians in Sandžak during World War II.

"His elevation into the public sphere represents a deep insult to the victims, but also an attempt to normalize fascism under the auspices of a part of the government. The Bosniak Party, by remaining part of such a government, gives legitimacy to processes that go against the interests of the people it represents and the values that Montenegro, at least declaratively, inherits: a civil state, the European path, interethnic harmony and respect for truth and justice," he said.

Kalač pointed out that Bosniaks in Montenegro are a people with their own identity, history and territorial continuity.

"Poor compromises and silence in the face of ideological aggression do not protect one's "position", but rather lose legitimacy. Therefore, we call on the Bosniak Party to cease all forms of political cooperation with entities that deny genocide and glorify criminals, and to leave the government whose fundamental values are not compatible with the interests, identity and historical experience of the Bosniak people," he said.

Kalač concluded that the Bosniak Party "is not only becoming an accomplice in this political and ideological project" but also bears responsibility to current and future generations of Bosniaks in Montenegro.
