Certain religious dignitaries, through irresponsible behavior, have created an environment in which media workers have become victims, said Montenegrin Prime Minister Milojko Spajić.

In a post on Iks, he strongly condemned today's attack on photojournalists from "Vijesti" and "Pobjeda" Stevo Vasiljević and Boris Pejović in Berane.

"Every attack on journalists is a direct attack on media freedom and fundamental democratic values. Certain religious dignitaries, through irresponsible behavior, have created a social environment in which media workers have become victims simply because they do their job professionally," Spajić stated.

The Prime Minister said that the effective response of the competent institutions to the illegal installation of memorials in the municipality of Berane clearly shows that the state will not tolerate illegal actions that disturb society.

"Revising history through such actions is a futile task for those who have bad intentions regarding our EU future. Montenegro will be a modern state in which laws are respected and in which historical facts are not tailored to political ambitions," Spajić concluded.
