The Socialist People's Party (SNP) condemned yesterday's attack on photojournalists from "Vijesti" and "Pobjeda" Boris Pejović and Stevo Vasiljević in the Berane village of Gornje Zaostro, as well as attempts to threaten their right to freely and safely perform their work.
"We recall that freedom of the media and the right of the public to be truthfully, fully and promptly informed is one of the basic principles of a democratic society. Attacks on journalists and photojournalists are not just attacks on individuals, but a direct attack on the right of citizens to know the truth. Free speech is the path to democracy and the foundation of every free society," the statement reads.
They called on the competent state bodies, institutions, organizations and individuals to show responsibility and to contribute to preserving freedom of speech and expression.
"SNP Montenegro will always stand in defense of free and professional journalism, convinced that only an open, safe and responsible public space can be the foundation of true democracy," the party said in a statement.
