Popović: Prosecution to investigate whether Metodije incited national, racial and religious hatred

The events of the last few days, in which war criminals and Chetnik butchers were celebrated, require an urgent response from the competent state authorities, which must effectively prevent all future and similar plans by any individual or organization operating in Montenegro, said the spokesperson for the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) and MP in the Parliament of Montenegro, Sonja Popović.

"In this context, I call on the Supreme State Prosecutor, Milorad Marković, to address the above events and examine whether the actions of the Bishop of the Church of Serbia, Metodije Ostojić, fulfilled the elements of the criminal offense under Article 370 of the Criminal Code, Incitement to National, Racial and Religious Hatred," said Popović.

She called on the competent prosecutor's office to review other circumstances related to the aforementioned event, which, she said, concern the singing of another country's anthem at a public gathering, and the prosecutor's office is also obliged to investigate who else assisted Dobrašinović in committing the crime.

"The public must know who made the monument in question, how it was transported to the Berane village of Gornje Zaostro, and who made the pedestal on which the monument was displayed. Only a thorough investigation and prosecution of all those responsible for the case will prevent this and similar acts in the future," Popović concluded.
