The Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) Podgorica councilors' club announced that instead of "receiving alms" from Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić, the government should urgently request NATO assistance in extinguishing the fire.
"Despite the fact that the country is choking in smoke, due to fires raging in several locations, the Government of Montenegro led by Milojko Spajić has still not sent a request for NATO assistance. Given the seriousness and complexity of the situation on the ground, the help of partners is more than necessary for Montenegro, however - NATO cannot send assistance before the current government sends an official request to the NATO Euro-Atlantic Disaster Response Coordination Center," the Podgorica-based DPS said in a statement.
They asked Spajić "why he still hasn't sent the request."
"How would Montenegro, with adequate support, save what could be saved due to the fire disaster that befell it? We also ask whether he feels any sense of responsibility for not taking the necessary steps as the first man in the executive branch to ensure that Montenegro uses all available mechanisms to which it is entitled as a NATO member."
The statement also states that Spajić, "probably at the behest of the actual head of the parliamentary majority" Andrija Mandić, "is not asking for help from a partner who is watching over this country," but is "receiving alms" from Vučić "who presents himself as the savior of Montenegro by sending a helicopter to help put out the fire."
"In conclusion, regardless of the anti-NATO activities of the destroyer of Montenegro, Andrija Mandić, who, as we have seen, is also re-educating the ruling Europe Now Movement, the Government of Montenegro, headed by PES leader Milojko Spajić, is obliged to urgently, without further delay, request NATO assistance in the fight against this scourge. Otherwise, all current rulers, starting with Spajić, will be responsible for the incalculable damage that has already occurred, the ultimate limits of which cannot be imagined unless the flames are brought under control," the statement reads.
