Regarding the recent decision to pay variable pay to firefighters engaged during the fire, I would like to express my deep dissatisfaction and condemnation of the manner in which this decision will be implemented, Miloš Krstović, head of the parliamentary club of the Movement for Podgorica, announced today.
"Namely, although it was presented to the public that the firefighters who participated in extinguishing the fire would receive 1.500 euros each, in practice it turns out that only firefighters from Podgorica will be entitled to this award. I believe that such a move is extremely incorrect and unfair to the firefighters from Kotor, Žabljak, Ulcinj, Cetinje and numerous other cities, who, side by side with their colleagues from Podgorica, risked their lives protecting people, homes and nature. Manipulating such an important topic for the sake of daily political points is an act unworthy of a serious and responsible state authority. If there was enough political will to make other decisions of public interest using the 'paff-paff' model at a telephone session of the Government, then it is the obligation of the Prime Minister and the Government to ensure that the promise is fulfilled equally for every firefighter in Montenegro," Krstović emphasized in a statement.
He added that he requested Prime Minister Milojko Spajić to propose a decision that would pay the announced reward from the budget reserve to all firefighters who participated in extinguishing fires throughout Montenegro.
"Only in this way will he show that his word and promise have weight, and that the state's respect and gratitude towards firefighters is not subject to political manipulation. Firefighters deserve equal recognition for their courage, no matter which city they come from. Those who risked their lives must be rewarded, not used for political promotion," said Krstović.
Spajić and Podgorica Mayor Saša Mujović announced two days ago that the Capital City, with the consent of the Government, will financially reward firefighters in the amount of 1.500 euros each, or 500 euros per month for the next three months.
The president of the Professional Union of Firefighters of Montenegro and the commander of the Nikšić Protection and Rescue Service (SZS), Goran Tripković, said yesterday, among other things, "we left Nikšić to help Podgorica, and only their firefighters were awarded."
Spajić's Cabinet said today that Vlad will cover the costs of a seven-day stay of all firefighters involved, not just those from the capital, at the "Dr Simo Milošević Institute", and called on local governments to reward members of their protection and rescue services.
