Gorjanc Prelević: Democrats, lacking arguments, are once again opting for a senseless personal attack

Executive Director of the Human Rights Action (HRA) Tea Gorjanc Prelević said that "in the absence of arguments" in the controversy with her, Democratic Montenegro "once again decided on a new, shameless personal attack."

If it weren't dangerous, she added, "given that this is a group that controls the security system, it would be sad."

Gorjanc Prelević responded to the Democrats who accused her of using lawyer Veselin Radulović "as cannon fodder, to threaten, attack, and smear in her name." The Democrats also accused the HRA executive director of "opposing vetting in the police and security services, subverting," "sharing" a political and interest agenda with former DPS president Milo Đukanović, "misleading the public," and "being ready for dirty work."

"Of course, my goal is not to 'preserve personnel who served the mafia', but I once again warn that every vetting must be carried out impartially, based on the law and evidence and with respect for the right to defense, and not arbitrarily, at the will of any political party in power. Of course, I do not support associates of organized crime groups, nor such groups, as the Democrats foolishly claim," said Gorjanc Prelević.

She adds that nothing she has ever done or written could have led anyone in the know to such conclusions.

"All the topics that the Human Rights Action has dealt with, including Katnić and the Basic Agreement and the mass murders in Cetinje, have been explained in a well-argued manner on our website and there is no need to repeat them. I claim that it is extremely worrying for the general interest that the brains of the security and defense operations of this country could draw such wrong conclusions about me and even publish them publicly. I have supported, support and will always support the right of lawyers representing suspended police officers to file criminal charges against the Ministry of the Interior, without the top authorities threatening them with tears and without automatically calling them, without evidence, members of the Škaljar and Kavač clans," said Gorjanc Prelević.

She emphasized that everyone, especially lawyers, whose job it is, has the right to file reports against any authority, and that those in authority are obliged to defend themselves against reports with arguments, instead of threatening, humiliating and falsely accusing, thereby influencing both the filers of reports, as well as the state prosecutor's office and the courts.

"I expect international partners to advise the government on this, which, unfortunately, does not realize this itself, while allegedly wanting to respect international standards and bring the country into the EU," said Gorjanc Prelević.
