The political profile of Social Democrat MP Niko Zirojević has long been recognizable – not by his ideas, but by his insults. He has become a kind of “on-duty” man whose performance is based on belittling women, especially those who dare to oppose him with arguments. When political facts and serious positions run out, Zirojević reaches for the easiest, but also the ugliest weapon – insults.
This was announced by the Women's Association of the Europe Now Movement (PES).
They add that this is how Zirojević's political signature emerged - unsubstantiated attacks, belittling and discrediting of female politicians who do not share his opinion.
"While he declaratively refers to European values, in practice he shows their opposite. Because European values do not recognize 'semi-literate women', 'nice ladies' or comments about appearance - only Balkan primitivism knows that. And with Zirojević, this is not a slip of the tongue, but a pattern of behavior. When he defends the indefensible - cases like Jelena Perović and Milivoje Katnić - he tries to appear serious. But as soon as he turns to women from the ruling majority, the appearance of seriousness disappears and a bare insult remains. This is not politics, this is systematic humiliation, an attempt to silence and discourage women," the PES Women's Association assures.
They say their response to these attempts is clear - they will not back down.
"We will continue to talk about women's rights, to remind people of the standards of the culture of dialogue, and to show that insults are a sign of weakness, not strength. We say to Zirojević and everyone who thinks that political skill is measured by the number of insults: no to the normalization of unculture. No to the humiliation of women in public space. Because the politics we believe in is not based on insults, but on arguments. And the dignity of women in politics will not be destroyed by someone's frustrations," the statement concludes.
