Enlargement policy is an important response of the European Union (EU) to the global challenges facing the world, said Montenegrin President Jakov Milatović.

He told reporters after the Bled Strategic Forum that it was no coincidence that the Slovenian Prime Minister invited his Montenegrin counterpart to the Forum, just as the President of Slovenia invited him.

"This year, it seems to me that in this way, Slovenia as the host has shown its commitment and strong support for our European path," said Milatović.

He believes that this is an important message that the host sent to Montenegro.

Milatović recalled that today he participated in the presidential panel within the Bled Strategic Forum.

"I tried to further demonstrate a kind of success of the enlargement policy and to present it as one of the best policies that the EU has had so far and, in that sense, to further demonstrate why the enlargement policy is an important response of Europe and the Union in relation to the important global challenges that the world is facing," said Milatović.

He said that, in this regard, Montenegro, as the most advanced candidate country for membership, also has a key role.

"I always say that Montenegro's membership in the EU would be a much greater success than the membership of one country alone. Because it would be a kind of positive signal to all other candidate countries that membership is alive," Milatović believes.

As he stated, this would be a "win-win" position for both the EU and Montenegro, and all other candidate countries that want to become part of the Union.

Milatović said that the Forum discussed all global challenges, including the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

"I think I have presented a very clear Montenegrin position here. The European future is important to us, a strong Europe is also important to us. I think that Europe can be even stronger and that it can defend the values that exist in Europe more strongly and that are worth defending and defending," said Milatović.

He said that sometimes it seems to him that European leaders are less optimistic "than perhaps those of us who live outside the EU."

"I think Europe needs additional self-confidence, and that was one message I wanted to convey to other European leaders today," said Milatović.

He believes that Europe, with its benefits, is one of the best places to live in the world, even in the context of institutions based on the rule of law, protection of human rights, and principles of social justice.

These are, as Milatović added, the reasons why Montenegro wants to become part of that club.
