Montenegro must hurry to join the European Union (EU), Montenegrin President Jakov Milatović announced today.

The Public Relations Office of the President of Montenegro announced that Milatović received today the Prime Minister of Bulgaria, Rosen Zheljazakov, who is on an official visit to Montenegro.

"Our obligation is to accelerate reforms, to fulfill the tasks we have undertaken and to become a full member of the EU by 2028. This is the strategic goal of our country and a guarantee of stability, development and security for all our citizens," said Milatović.

The statement states that during the meeting, "the excellent relations characterized by traditional friendship based on close historical and cultural ties between Montenegro and Bulgaria were confirmed."

"Also, there is room for upgrading political, economic, transport and scientific-cultural relations between the two countries. The importance of cooperation between Montenegro and Bulgaria in Antarctic research, which was launched at the initiative of President Milatović, was highlighted. This partnership allows our researchers to become part of global scientific efforts in studying climate change and Antarctic ecosystems. In this way, Montenegro shows that it has the capacity to contribute to international science through participation in global research projects," said the Public Relations Office of the President of Montenegro.

Milatović also said that Bulgaria, as an EU member and NATO ally, continuously provides strong support to Montenegro's European path, which is of exceptional importance for our country.
