The President of Montenegro, Jakov Milatović, announced that he strongly condemns the chanting by a number of fans at last night's Croatia - Montenegro match, which demonstrated hate speech towards members of the Serbian people.
"I will always be against hate speech and always for a policy that unites people and leads Montenegro and the region forward. I strongly condemn the chanting of a number of fans at last night's Croatia - Montenegro match, which demonstrated hate speech towards members of the Serbian people. In a modern and democratic Europe, whose values we strive for, there should be no place for expressing intolerance towards members of another nation," Milatović wrote in a statement.
He added that he went to the match with his friend, Croatian President Zoran Milanović.
"The two of us share the same passion for our countries' national teams, but also for good neighborly cooperation. That is why I want to send a clear message: sport should bring us together, not take us back to the past. We continue to build good neighborly relations with dedication and responsibility, respecting and appreciating each other," said Milatović.
