Montenegro and China will continue to improve friendly relations, which are built on mutual respect and trust, it was announced at the meeting of the Deputy Speaker of the Parliament Mirsad Nurković with the newly appointed Chinese Ambassador to Podgorica Chen Xiufeng.
Nurković, who is the president of the Friendship Group with China, thanked Chen for the visit, emphasizing that the meeting represents another form of continuous and meaningful cooperation between the two countries.
"He stressed that Montenegro and China will continue to promote friendly relations, which are built on mutual respect and trust," the Assembly statement said.
Nurković recalled that China was among the first countries to recognize the independence of Montenegro in 2006 and that it opened an embassy in Podgorica shortly thereafter, which was a strong gesture of support for Montenegrin statehood.
"Nurković expressed gratitude to China for its consistent support for Montenegro's European path and emphasized that Beijing always shows respect for the independent policy and international activities of our country," the statement said.
He emphasized that Montenegro and China are additionally connected by a common heritage and the same stance in the fight against fascism, which represents an important value basis for mutual cooperation.
