Turkey is a reliable partner of Montenegro, and our citizens and businessmen are building bridges connecting the two countries, said Minister of Diaspora Mirsad Azemović.
The "Sakib Sabanci" Museum in Istanbul, Turkey, celebrated the Statehood Day of Montenegro, in the presence of high-ranking officials of Montenegro and Turkey, representatives of local and state institutions, numerous mayors, as well as a large number of emigrants originally from Montenegro, the Ministry of Diaspora announced.
Azemović, together with State Secretary Adel Omeragić, attended the celebration, which was attended by, among others, the President of Montenegro Jakov Milatović, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ervin Ibrahimović, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkey Hakan Fidan, the Head of the Islamic Community in Montenegro Rifat Fejzić, Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, as well as numerous other guests.
Azemović recalled the importance of Statehood Day in the history of Montenegro.
"Today, we proudly recall the rich history of our country, its values and enduring ideals of freedom," said Azemović.
Speaking about relations between Montenegro and Turkey, he said that they are based on solid foundations of friendship and cooperation.
"Our relations today are based on friendship, mutual respect and cooperation in all fields - from economy, to culture, to education. Turkey is a reliable partner of Montenegro, and our citizens and businessmen are building bridges connecting the two countries," Azemović emphasized.
He placed special emphasis on the numerous emigrants in Turkey.
"Our emigrants are the strongest bridge between Montenegro and Turkey. Your love for your homeland and your dedication to its affirmation represent invaluable capital for Montenegro."
Referring to Montenegro's European path, the minister emphasized that the goal is clear - full membership in the European Union.
"This path is not always easy, but it is filled with the conviction that we belong to the European family of peoples. The diaspora, with its knowledge, experience and international connections, makes a strong contribution to this process," said Azemović.
At the end of his address, he "sent an emotional message to all emigrants," it was announced.
"Montenegro is a small country with a big heart, and you are proof that this heart beats far beyond its borders. Thank you for keeping Montenegro within you and for representing it with pride every day," concluded Azemović.
