The former vice president of the Socialist People's Party (SNP), Minister of Sports and Youth Dragoslav Šćekić, confirmed that the formation of a new political party, which will be called the People's Trust Movement, is underway.
When asked about his continued position as minister, Šćekić assessed that his ministry had achieved significant results and made a significant contribution to the work of the Government. He is certain that Prime Minister Milojko Spajić also thinks so and that he will not take any steps that will affect the quality functioning of the Government.
"Yes, it is true that I am founding a movement with a lot of people who were interested in the fact that at this moment Montenegro and the political scene need a movement that will deal with the problems of citizens, that is, a people's movement," Šćekić told Radio Montenegro.
As he added, in Montenegro, and more broadly in the region, trust among citizens, trust in political entities, trust in politicians, has fallen significantly and is at a low level.
"We believe that at this moment we need to start a movement that will bring the institutions of the system closer to the people in the future, that is, serve their purpose, at the service of the people. The core of the movement itself is made up of the people. We do not need elites, we do not need individuals who think exclusively about their own interests, about their careers, but rather those people who are ready to give a new impetus to the Montenegrin system with their responsibility, their knowledge, their diligence," said Šćekić, as reported by the RTCG portal.
He claims that they have received significant support from citizens and, as he said, in the coming period, they will formally complete their establishment through signatures. He announced a press conference where they will specifically introduce themselves to citizens.
"The question of my survival in the Ministry, or rather in the Government, for me is primarily a question that should be asked exclusively to the Prime Minister, as someone who assembles his team and who proposes the Government and the Minister in the Government. One thing I can say is that with my work and the work of my associates, I have achieved serious results and that in that direction I have no thoughts at all about whether I should be a minister in the Government of Mr. Milojko Spajić. I think that the Ministry of Sports and Youth has made significant strides, improved the functioning of the federation and sports in Montenegro, as well as communication with young people, and that we have made a significant contribution to this Government functioning in the best possible way. I am sure that Mr. Spajić is thinking in that direction and that he will certainly not take any steps in that direction that will affect the quality functioning of the Government," said Šćekić.
Šćekić recently ran for president of the SNP, but withdrew his candidacy ahead of the party's congress, held on August 30, which he did not attend.
Vladimir Joković was re-elected as the president of the SNP, and he previously told "Vijesti" that Šćekić could not be a minister if he left the party.
