Before electing judges to the Constitutional Court, the recommendations of the Venice Commission, which we received back in June, should be implemented, which is a principle that should also be prepared when it comes to electing judges to the Constitutional Court proposed by the President, the Europe Now Movement (PES) parliamentary group announced today.
According to them, at today's session of the Parliament, which was scheduled at the proposal of the President of Montenegro, there was no necessary majority to include this item on the agenda, which means that this issue will be decided later, during the regular session.
"In principle, we are of the opinion that before the election of judges of the Constitutional Court, the recommendations of the Venice Commission, which we received back in June, should be implemented, which is a principle that should also be prepared when it comes to the election of judges of the Constitutional Court proposed by the President. We remind you that this process has not yet been completed because the opposition has not delegated members to the working group to be formed by the Ministry of Justice, so we call on Minister Božović to begin work on the implementation of the recommendations of the VK as soon as possible, with or without the opposition, so as not to further delay this process," the PES parliamentary group said in a statement.
Members of the Parliament of Montenegro today did not adopt the agenda, the only item of which was the proposal by President Jakov Milatović to elect lawyer Mirjana Vučinić as a judge of the Constitutional Court.
59 MPs voted - 21 voted in favor, 38 abstained. There were no votes against.
