Minister of Defense, Dragan Krapović, met with his Slovenian counterpart, Borut Sajović, who is on an official visit to Montenegro with a delegation from the Slovenian Ministry of Defense.
Krapović, the Ministry of Defense announced, emphasized that Slovenia represents one of the most important partners and allies of Montenegro, from the very beginning of its Euro-Atlantic path to today, when we equally and responsibly share responsibility and obligations within the NATO Alliance.
He added that Slovenia's selfless support on Montenegro's path towards the European Union is also very important, and expressed hope that we will soon have equal status within the European Union.
"Ministers Krapović and Sajovic agreed that the defense cooperation between Montenegro and the Republic of Slovenia is very substantial and high-quality, and they particularly emphasized the importance of joint procurement projects and equipment donations, through which Montenegro and the Republic of Slovenia have significantly improved their defense capabilities. Referring to concrete results in the modernization and strengthening of military capacities, they emphasized mutual readiness to continue this type of cooperation, emphasizing that, in a time when security challenges know no borders, the identification and development of joint projects is imperative," it was announced.
They said, it was added, that the unpredictable security situation dictates the need for an active contribution to building peace and stability in the world, and they referred to the importance of joint participation of members of the two armies in NATO activities, exercises and training, particularly emphasizing the joint engagement of troops in the battle group in Latvia.
"Ministers Krapović and Sajović agreed that the war against Ukraine opened not only a chapter of new European history, but also a new chapter in the Alliance, which pointed to the importance of coordinated action and continuous strengthening of interoperability among allies. Krapović, in addition to the alliance in the Alliance, also emphasized the important dimension of regional defense cooperation, recalling that Montenegro and Slovenia contribute to building a stable and prosperous region through numerous regional formats."
Krapović and Sajović signed an Agreement on the donation of military equipment, which, after restoration, will be used by the Slovenian side as a museum exhibit.
"The ministers said that the tradition of donating funds between ministries represents yet another proof of the friendly relations between Montenegro and Slovenia, and that they will continue to work on strengthening them in the coming period," it was announced.
