The leader of the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS), Danijel Živković, assessed that the former high-ranking official of his party and leader of the Party of European Progress (SEP), Duško Marković, is washing his conscience due to his membership in the strongest opposition party.
He made this statement at today's press conference in the Parliament of Montenegro, referring to the claims of his former party colleague that "Dritan Abazović was given the opportunity to sign the Basic Agreement thanks to the minority support for his government, which was provided by the DPS, as well as the agreement on that support, which, among other things, also addressed the issue of the Basic Agreement."
"Duško Marković was a DPS official for 30 years. He held the most important positions - he was the director of the ANB, the minister of justice. From 2016 to 2020, he was the prime minister. Sometimes, from Duško Marković's statements, it seems to me that he was never in the DPS - as if he wants to scourge his conscience for the last 30 years, but that is his right and his style of political struggle," Živković pointed out.
He emphasized that DPS "never supported Abazović to sign the Basic Agreement.
"The moment this happened, and Dritan Abazović was warned about it, the initiative to replace the Government was submitted on the same day. And that is all we need to know on this topic. What someone wants to insinuate will not pass. Where we are responsible, we are responsible, where we are not, we are not. I remind you that at that time Marković was a DPS MP and I know for sure that he advocated for the formation of a minority government," he said.
When asked by a Vijesti journalist whether the Basic Agreement was treated in the agreement, Živković said that "Abazović did not receive support to sign it like this."
"They want to insinuate that the DPS supported the minority government in order to sign the Basic Agreement. If so, why didn't we stay in power? He was warned that if he went in that direction, in the way he intended on instructions from another state, we would overthrow the government. A monument should be poured in Gornji Zaostar for him, not for the war criminal Pavle Đurišić," said Živković.
As he added, the fact that the minority government survived for another year was thanks to the Democratic Front and the deal that Abazović made with that alliance.
