Ibrahimović: There are still 50 cases of missing people from the wars of the 90s in Montenegro

Deputy Prime Minister of Montenegro and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ervin Ibrahimović, at the 80th session of the United Nations (UN) General Assembly, at an event on missing persons in armed conflicts, said that 50 cases of missing persons from the wars of the 1990s are still ongoing in Montenegro, and stressed that our country will continue to improve its legislative and institutional framework in order to ensure reparations and dignified access to the families of victims.

As stated in a statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MVP), Ibrahimović emphasized that "the right of families to know the truth is an inalienable human right and a prerequisite for reconciliation and lasting peace."

"He placed special emphasis on regional cooperation and information exchange, as well as the importance of multilateral mechanisms such as the Berlin Process and the Regional Database on Missing Persons, as key instruments in the reconciliation process," the statement said.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs added that by participating in the Fifth Summit of the International Crimean Platform, Ibrahimović confirmed our country's consistent support for the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine.

"Montenegro's solidarity with Ukraine is active and principled - expressed through humanitarian assistance, diplomatic engagement and support for Ukrainian resilience. Montenegro stands firmly with international efforts to condemn Russian aggression and defend international law," the statement said.

As reported, on the sidelines of the General Debate, Ibrahimović had bilateral meetings with the foreign ministers of Mongolia and the Maldives.

"With the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia Batscetseg Batmunk, Ibrahimović signed a Memorandum of Cooperation between the two Ministries of Foreign Affairs, which opened the way for strengthening political, economic and cultural ties between the two countries. During the meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Maldives Abdulah Khalil, mutual readiness was expressed to intensify cooperation between the two countries, especially in the areas of tourism, culture and multilateral activities," the MFA statement concluded.
