An independent and autonomous prosecution service is of crucial importance for Montenegro's European path, said Irena Karalambides, Vice President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE), at a meeting with Chief State Prosecutor Milorad Marković.
As announced by the Supreme State Prosecutor's Office (SPO), Marković met with Karalambides, who is also the Special Representative for the Fight against Corruption, to discuss the priorities of the State Prosecutor's Office in that area and the improvement of institutional integrity.
"OSCE support for reform processes in the prosecutor's office is of great importance for strengthening the rule of law and making the institution work more efficiently," Marković emphasized.
He briefed Karalambides on the current state and challenges in the work of the state prosecutor's office, emphasizing full commitment to the uncompromising prosecution of high-level corruption and organized crime.
Karalambides stressed that the reform of the prosecution service currently being implemented is essential for setting high standards of integrity, oversight and accountability in this institution.
According to the statement, she said that an independent and autonomous prosecution service is of crucial importance for Montenegro's European path.
The VDP said that during the meeting, the importance of an efficient institutional response to challenges such as gender-based violence and domestic violence was also discussed, with a joint commitment to consistently recognizing and sanctioning these phenomena in accordance with best international practice.
"The interlocutors expressed their readiness to further develop cooperation in the areas of fighting corruption, strengthening institutional capacities and exchanging good practices, with a shared commitment to European values and standards," the statement added.
