Although the principled Democrats loudly criticized cases of holding two or more public offices while they were in opposition, today they remain surprisingly silent when one of their officials does so, the DPS-SD-Citizens Councilors' Club in the Kolašin Municipal Assembly announced.
They pointed out that Bojan Medenica, director of the Montenegrin Ski Resort, councilor in the Kolašin Municipal Assembly and member of the Executive Board of the Kolašin Tourist Organization, despite the decision of the Agency for the Prevention of Corruption which established a violation of the provisions relating to restrictions on the exercise of public functions, continues to cover all three functions.
"In this, his party colleague's refusal to convene a session of the Election and Appointment Committee at which the termination of the councillor's function would be stated also plays into his hands, as does the Agency's inaction to initiate appropriate misdemeanor proceedings before the court for violation of the law. The Agency, which initiated misdemeanor proceedings against the councillor due to delays in submitting reports on income and assets, is now ignoring an obvious case of conflict of interest," the DPS-SD-Citizens Councillors' Club said in a statement.
And while the citizens of Kolašin are leaving their city in search of work, the councilors add, individuals, with the wholehearted help of the party, manage to fill three positions for which nothing but their party membership recommends them.
"Although Bojan Medenica is clumsily defending himself by stating that he continues to perform several functions because he is not sure whether he will be elected as a full-time director after the expiration of his acting mandate, he should not do so to the detriment of citizens and the budget. The address for resolving this dilemma is his party and coalition partners.
"In this way, the catastrophic mutual relationship between coalition partners in government at the local level has been exposed for the umpteenth time, and this is not surprising because these are profiles that prioritize the redistribution of functions and satisfying personal and party appetites, not the interests of citizens," the statement concludes.
