After the President of the Municipal Assembly (MA) of Danilovgrad did not schedule a session at the request of 1.760 citizens, at which a decision would be made on holding a referendum on the fair price of water, 11 councilors today officially sent a request to the President of the Assembly to convene a session at the initiative of citizens, announced today the councilor of the Preokret movement in the MA of Danilovgrad, Vuk Iković.
"The purpose of the session is to enable the citizens of Danilovgrad to vote in a local referendum for the first time and vote for or against the repeal of the decision that increased the price of water by 53% for 2025. In this way, the government would enable citizens to directly verify the decision made, and in the event that the majority is in favor, citizens' bills would be reduced by the amount that has been unreasonably paid to Vodovod since January 1 of this year," Iković emphasized in a statement.
He added that they are starting from the assumption that every responsible authority wants to contribute to greater sustainability of its decisions, as well as greater independence of citizens in the decision-making process.
"That is precisely why organizing a referendum benefits the current leadership the most, because it proves that they respect the will of the citizens and really care about them. This is also an opportunity to encourage citizens throughout Montenegro to seek a review of government decisions or launch initiatives on topics that are of vital importance to their local communities. We remind you that the President of the Parliament, in accordance with the law, has a deadline of 15 days from the date of submission of the request to convene a session. If he fails to do so, the applicants themselves have the right to convene the session," said Iković.
