The Bijelo Polje branch of the Europe Now Movement (PES) announced that on the day former security sector leaders are being arrested, the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) is accusing PES "for its actions in the 90s."
PES Bijelo Polje also states that "this is obviously blackmail by the Bosniak Party."
The Municipal Assembly (MA) of Bijelo Polje yesterday adopted by a majority vote the initiative of the Bosniak Party (BS) to revoke the "Risto Ratković" award from the former president of the Bosnian entity Republika Srpska and convicted war criminal Radovan Karadžić.
"And it is more than clear that the Bijelo Polje Municipal Assembly is not competent to either give or take the 'Risto Ratković' award. We do not need to remind citizens that it was DPS that was on the same wavelength as Radovan Karadžić, and at a time of the greatest evil in this region, when he was fighting for peace," the Bijelo Polje PES announced.
They add that DPS "was an active accomplice in the crimes of the 90s" and now wants to "wash away the stain by falsifying history."
"If there were a legal basis, DPS would have taken away the award back in 2016, when a similar initiative was submitted by citizens. Back then, they had the same explanations that they call dumb today. It is obvious that this is blackmail by the Bosniak Party, so this time they were forced to participate in the instrumentalization of the local parliament. We feel the deepest sensitivity towards the painful events from our past, but such moves today have no meaning other than scoring cheap political points. It is indicative that DPS is still emphasizing topics from the past, especially on a day when former leaders of their security sector are being arrested, while PES is being accused of their actions from the 90s," PES Bijelo Polje announced.
