The latest action by the Prosecutor's Office is aimed at intimidating critics of the government, the Podgorica committee of the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) assessed at yesterday's session.
They also believe that this action "marked the persecution of all political dissenters, whether they come from the sphere of politics, the media, the non-governmental sector or civic activists."
"By acting in this way, the Prosecutor's Office has positioned itself as the main political actor in the country and has shown its intention to permanently regulate the political scene in a way that will influence the ratings of political parties, publicly - through suitable media, defame critics and influence the formation or prevention of the formation of a certain government at the local or state level," the DPS board in the capital announced.
They said that it was particularly concerning that "media outlets that are critical of the current government have also come under attack from the Prosecutor's Office." In this way, they added, their freedom of reporting was directly violated, which "endangered not only their personal security, but also Montenegro's European path."
"Finally, the DPS Capital City Board provided full support for the continuation of the party's ongoing activities at all levels in preparation for the local and parliamentary elections that will decisively determine the future path of our country," the statement reads.
