Montenegro will continue to responsibly fulfill the tasks on the NATO agenda and contribute to preserving stability and promoting dialogue in the region, said Minister of Defense Dragan Krapović.
The Ministry of Defense announced that Krapović participated in the North Atlantic Council meeting, which was held at NATO headquarters in Brussels.
The meeting, as they stated, was chaired by NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte.
"The Defense Ministers discussed the dynamics of the implementation of the decisions taken during the June Summit held in The Hague, which clearly indicate that the Allies remain steadfastly on the same course, fully committed to strengthening the Alliance and enhancing resilience in a dynamic security environment," the statement said.
The Ministry said that it was emphasized that the NATO transformation process is being implemented according to the planned dynamics in order to further strengthen the deterrence and defense position, and that in this context the ministers discussed the further implementation of the adopted concepts, strengthening the force structure and adjusting the command structure.
"One of the important prerequisites is having the necessary forces and capabilities, so during the meeting there was discussion about the implementation of a new, very demanding package of Capability Goals that will significantly contribute to the modernization of allied forces," the statement said.
It is stated that a strong commitment was also expressed to further increase defense investments in line with the new obligations agreed in The Hague.
The Ministry said that the Allied Defense Ministers once again confirmed their unwavering and long-term support for Ukraine, which is of crucial importance for the defense of its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Krapović emphasized that the unity and full commitment of all allies is crucial in order to implement all obligations without delay in order to further strengthen collective defense, bearing in mind that the Alliance is facing the most complex challenges in the last few decades.
"In this context, he emphasized that Montenegro continues to responsibly fulfill the tasks on the NATO agenda," the Montenegrin Ministry of Defense said.
Krapović, as stated by that government department, once again confirmed Montenegro's determination to continue the trend of increasing defense spending, a third of which will be allocated to the implementation of NATO Capability Goals.
Speaking about the Western Balkans, he pointed out the need for that region to remain high on NATO's agenda, emphasizing that Montenegro, from its position, will continue to contribute to preserving stability and promoting dialogue.
"When it comes to the situation in Ukraine, he pointed out the importance of continuing to provide strong support and emphasized that Montenegro has so far sent significant funds to this country, which will continue in the coming period, in accordance with the needs and assessment of the situation on the ground," the statement said.
