The People's Trust Movement (PNP) expressed full support for the work of the Supreme State Prosecutor's Office and the Special State Prosecutor's Office, but also called for a review of all cases handled by prosecutors against whom investigations are currently underway or indictments have been filed.
In that political movement, they expressed their belief that the aforementioned institutions are crucial for preserving the rule of law and citizens' trust in the judicial system.
"The movement strongly supports the independence of prosecutors and their right to decide solely on the basis of the law, not political interests. However, the times also demand greater responsibility, speed and determination. Citizens rightly expect that large and sensitive cases be resolved without delay, because justice that is delayed does not fulfill its purpose. The prosecution must show that there are no untouchables and that everyone is equal before the law. The People's Trust Movement believes that the review of all cases handled by prosecutors against whom investigations have been initiated or indictments have been filed today is a matter of institutional honor and the credibility of the judicial system," the statement reads.
The PNP said that any case in which there is even the slightest doubt about impartiality must be re-examined, because citizens deserve truth and justice free from any shadow of doubt.
"On Montenegro's European path, the prosecution has clear and strong support from European partners, who have repeatedly emphasized that the fight against corruption and organized crime is a basic condition for progress towards the EU. This trust of Europe must be reciprocated with results, not just promises. The People's Trust Movement calls on all institutions to provide full institutional support to independent prosecutors, but also to insist on the accountability of those who have damaged the reputation of the profession. Only through transparency, revision and consistent application of the law can Montenegro restore trust in the judiciary and strengthen its European path," the statement concludes.
