Although the budget rebalance, the largest in the history of Bijelo Polje, of 28 million euros, was adopted, which was doubled during my mandate (in 2018 it was 14 million euros) without 1 euro of new debt for about 7 years, PES councilor Dražen Petrić is currently launching an initiative, and it is clear why, said today the Mayor of Bijelo Polje Municipality Petar Smolović.
He said this while commenting on the opposition's and Petrić's statements, who did criticize the rebalance, and the PES's announcement that it would launch an initiative to remove Smolović.
"I understand Mr. Petrić's personal anger over the award being taken away from Radovan Karadžić, but Europe and Radovan do not go together, you have to give up one thing, Mr. Petrić! What I have done during my term, and what you have contributed to Bijelo Polje in half a decade, we will be happy to discuss in front of the councilors and citizens. I do not run away from the assembly sessions, nor from Bijelo Polje when key topics are on the agenda," said Smolović.
DPS: Petrić is still getting acquainted with the functioning of local government due to commitments outside Bijelo Polje
The Municipal Board of the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) said that councilor Dražen Petrić, due to numerous obligations outside of Bijelo Polje, is still getting acquainted with the functioning of local government and complex processes that require time, effort and dedication.
"Since he has never worked in local or state bodies before, it is understandable that he needs time to understand how the system works. Therefore, we understand when he makes blanket and unfounded assessments. However, it would be useful for Councilor Petrić to become familiar with the concrete results of the work of the local government and the current Mayor Petar Smolović," the statement said.
They pointed out that during President Smolović's mandate, Bijelo Polje experienced significant development and visible changes.
"...numerous infrastructure projects have been implemented, streets and bridges have been reconstructed, public spaces have been developed, communal infrastructure has been improved, and local government has become recognized as one of the most transparent in Montenegro. New investments and development projects of strategic importance have also been launched. It should be especially emphasized that Bijelo Polje, thanks to responsible and homely management, has maintained financial stability even during periods of crisis, and that all obligations to citizens, partners and employees have been regularly settled," the statement states.
The Bijelo Polje DPS adds that because of this, councilor Petrić's claims are not only incorrect, but also unfair to everyone who, through their work and dedication, has contributed to the development of the city and the implementation of projects that are changing the face of Bijelo Polje.
"It is obvious that, due to a lack of political experience and own contribution, they resort to attacks on people with proven results. It would be useful for councilor Petrić to understand that Bijelo Polje is not built through populism and empty promises, but through serious, responsible and long-term work - and this is exactly what President Petar Smolović proves every day," it states.
They also said that throughout all these years, Smolović has been and remains open to dialogue, cooperation, and suggestions, regardless of the political affiliation of his interlocutors.
"With his work, he has shown how to run a municipality, how to plan development and how to responsibly serve citizens - not with words and populism, but with actions and results. And finally, as President Smolović said, "Europe or Radovan - that is the question now," the DPS OO statement concludes.
