The Parliament of Montenegro tonight did not adopt the Report on the Work of the Prosecutorial Council and the State Prosecutor's Office for the past year, and the Annual Report on the Work of the Judicial Council and the Overall Situation in the Judiciary also failed to receive enough votes.

This evening, 25 MPs voted in favor of the report on the work of the Prosecutorial Council and the State Prosecutor's Office, which MPs discussed last week, while 14 voted against it, while 17 MPs abstained.

This report was supported by MPs from the Europe Now Movement (PES), the Civic Movement URA and Democratic Montenegro, MPs from the For the Future of Montenegro coalition abstained, while MPs from the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) were against.

Supreme State Prosecutor Milorad Marković said earlier during the presentation of the Report that the achieved results confirm that the State Prosecutor's Office actively participates in international judicial processes, that it is recognized as a credible and reliable partner, and that its work contributes to the improvement of the regional and European judicial network.

He emphasized that the results for last year show that the prosecutorial organization system is stable, professional and focused on further progress.

"The implemented reforms have laid the foundation for modernization and transparency of work," said Marković.

14 MPs voted in favor of the Report on the Work of the Judicial Council and the Overall State of the Judiciary for the past year, 13 voted against, and 20 MPs abstained.

Supreme Court President Valentina Pavličić said that the Report showed progress in a certain sense in terms of the efficiency of judges' work.

She said that the results achieved have been recognized by international partners, stating that Montenegro is facing a shortage of judicial personnel.

"All of this resulted in delays and everything that you, as members of this house, have witnessed over the past three years," said Pavličić.

According to her, the backlog of cases is not the result of last year, but rather the result of the last five years.

Pavličić said that the last ten months have seen serious progress when it comes to cases of organized crime and high-level corruption.

"Today, before the specialized department in Podgorica and the judges of that court, after ten years, we have the efficiency of that department's work at over 110 percent," said Pavličić.

As she pointed out, what is happening in Montenegrin courts today is a positive shift compared to the perception that emerges through certain cases.
