Our civic and multiethnic Bar, the last bastion of progressive Montenegro, is under attack again, announced today the Social Democrats (SD) MP in the Municipal Assembly (MA) of Bar, Jelena Dabović.
"This morning, our Bar woke up, we can freely say, 'crowned' with shame and disgrace. An instructed individual, or several of them, on the orders of those who systematically undermine civil peace in our city, broke the windows of an entrepreneur from Turkey. To make matters worse, the building is located directly across from our 'Blažo Jokov Orlandić' Elementary School, so today all students will have the opportunity to witness this 'crime', hidden in the darkness of inhumans," Dabović stated in a statement delivered from the Bar Elementary School.
She pointed out that knowing the promoters of hatred, they are convinced that this particular object was not chosen by chance, and that their goal is to spread fear and xenophobia, even among children.
"It is sad that up to this point, almost no one has publicly condemned this act of vandalism. By remaining silent, unfortunately, we are helping both the perpetrators and their inspirers. We call on the police to react urgently and find out who is systematically destroying property and inciting national hatred in our city. Our civic and multiethnic Bar, the last bastion of progressive Montenegro, is under attack again. That is precisely why we must be strong, united and united, to send the promoters of fascism and hatred, which once ruled in the nineties, back where they belong — into the past. This is our obligation to our children, because if we do not react now, we risk that arson, vandalism and calls for persecution will become their everyday life," Dabović pointed out.
She added that, on behalf of all well-intentioned citizens of Bar, she would like to extend a sincere apology to the family that owns the aforementioned restaurant, as well as to all members of the Turkish people in Montenegro.
"What happened is not and will never be the attitude of the citizens of Bar, but a shameful act of individuals who do not represent our city. Bar is and will remain a city of peace, unity and mutual respect — and that is the message we must send clearly to everyone today," concluded Dabović.
Two bars owned by Turkish citizens in Bar were demolished last night, and a currently unknown perpetrator or several of them attempted to set one of the bars on fire.
A fire broke out in a fast food restaurant on Mila Boškovića Street, across from the "Blažo Jokov Orlandić" Elementary School, late last night, and "Vijesti" was told by the Bar Protection and Rescue Service that they received the call shortly before two hours ago, and that the fire was quickly localized.
