Montenegro wants to build ties with partners who share the vision of stability, development and cooperation, said Montenegrin President Jakov Milatović in a conversation with the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani.
As announced by the President's Office, Milatović, at a meeting with the Qatari Emir in Doha, emphasized that the meeting marks the beginning of a new phase in political dialogue and cooperation between the two countries, after a period in which relations were less intense.
Milatović recalled that the last meeting at that level was in 2009.
"Montenegro and Qatar nurture a relationship of mutual respect and trust. We want to deepen these relations through concrete partnerships and projects that benefit both our citizens and our economies," said Milatović.
He invited the Emir of Qatar to visit Montenegro next year, when the country marks 20 years of the restoration of independence and the establishment of diplomatic relations with Qatar, which, as stated in the statement, the Emir gladly accepted.
"The President informed the Emir of the decision to open the Embassy of Montenegro in Doha, which will further strengthen communication and cooperation between the two countries and their economic communities," the statement said.
It is stated that the two statesmen highlighted the great potential and common interest in strengthening cooperation in numerous areas such as investment, energy, tourism, infrastructure and agriculture, and agreed on concrete steps in that direction.
Milatović welcomed the initiative to sign a memorandum of cooperation between the chambers of commerce of Montenegro and Qatar and initiated the organization of the Montenegro - Qatar Business Forum, as a platform for concrete economic cooperation and new investments.
"As a member of NATO and a country progressing towards EU membership, Montenegro wants to build ties with partners who share a vision of stability, development and cooperation. I believe that together we are opening a new page in the relations between our countries," said Milatović.
