The European Commission (EC) report, which has been publicly characterized as the best so far, confirms that Montenegro has once again been recognized as a leader in European integration in the region, said Parliament Speaker Andrija Mandić.
As announced by the Parliament, he met today with the Head of the European Union (EU) Delegation to Montenegro, Johan Sattler, who presented him with the EC Report on Montenegro for this year.
"President Mandić said that the Report, which has been publicly characterized as the best so far, confirms that Montenegro has once again been recognized as a leader in European integration in the region," the statement said.
Mandić emphasized that this assessment is not only a success for the institutions, but also a recognition of all citizens who believe that Montenegro is the next EU member and that it can implement reforms that change society for the better.
He said that he was particularly encouraged by the announcement of the drafting of the EU Accession Treaty, which, he added, clearly shows that Montenegro's European path has entered its final phase.
Mandić stressed that he is convinced that Montenegro, if this pace of reforms and political dialogue is maintained, can become a full member of the EU by 2028.
"As the President of the Parliament, I want to confirm the parliament's full commitment to the European path - through legislative responsibility, cooperation with the Government and constructive dialogue between all political actors," said Mandić.
Montenegro, as he said, is moving towards Europe upright and with confidence, aware of its history, values and responsibilities.
"Our goal is not just membership in the Union, but to become a country of happy, free, successful and proud people who live European values in their everyday lives," concluded Mandić.
