The Special State Prosecutor's Office (SDT) has informed the President of Montenegro, Jakov Milatović, in writing that the prosecutor's office has formed case files regarding the criminal complaint filed against Milatović by the president of the NGO Montenegrin Forum, Jelena Marković, on October 23, his office announced.
The report was filed for alleged abuse of official position and other criminal offenses.
"The report essentially states that the President of Montenegro made a decision to posthumously award the state order to Amfilohije Radović, and in the statement regarding the decision, Amfilohije Radović is described as 'a person who contributed to the democratization of Montenegro', 'a spiritual leader who has entrusted Orthodox believers' and 'a man who is peace and reconciliation for Montenegro', and the report states that in this way, by making the decision to award the order and making the statement, the criminal offense of abuse of official position under Article 416 of the Criminal Code of Montenegro was committed because the aforementioned decision was made on the occasion of and recognition of, as well as subsequent statements made in favor of one religious community, namely its religious leaders and their believers, which committed the criminal offense of racial and other discrimination under Article 443 of the Criminal Code of Montenegro and other criminal offenses. In this regard, it is necessary for you to submit the aforementioned decision with the case files formed on that occasion, with a written statement in relation to the allegations from "Criminal charges have been filed," reads a document signed by special prosecutor Sanja Jovićević, which was provided to the media by Milatović's office.
The President's Office announced that they welcome the SDT's promptness in forming the case and support the swift completion of the proceedings.
