It is necessary to open a dialogue as soon as possible in order to create the preconditions for the election of the remaining missing judges of the Constitutional Court, in accordance with the Law and parliamentary procedures, Minister of European Affairs Maide Gorčević announced today.
Both said this in response to the fact that Jovan Jovanović was elected to the Constitutional Court of Montenegro today, while Mirjana Vučinić and Mirjana Radović did not receive the necessary support from MPs at today's session of the Parliament of Montenegro.
"The election of Jovan Jovanović as a judge of the Constitutional Court has prevented a blockade, but the Court remains incomplete. Although I appreciate that after a long period of indecision, this decision has confirmed the democratic capacity of the Parliament and mature political action towards our common European future, the job is not fully done. It is necessary to open a dialogue as soon as possible in order to create the preconditions for the election of the remaining missing judges of the Constitutional Court, in accordance with the Law and parliamentary procedures," Gorčević stressed in a statement.
She added "that, apart from the fact that the implementation of the appointment is a necessity for the functionality of the Constitutional Court and thus the entire legal system, it also fulfills the recommendation from this year's report by the European Commission (EC)."
"Therefore, with today's appointment, regarding Chapter 23, in which we already record a good level of readiness, we will ensure progress, which is extremely important in the upcoming and crucial year for completing the negotiation process. In the coming months, the Parliament must remain focused on the remaining appointments, including not only the Constitutional Court, but also the Judicial and Prosecutorial Council. For Montenegro, both before and after its EU membership, there is no more important priority than establishing the rule of law," said Gorčević.
