Yesterday's vote in parliament, when only one of the three judges of the Constitutional Court was elected, was a missed opportunity at a crucial moment for Montenegro, said the Head of the European Union Delegation in Podgorica, Johan Sattler.
Asked to comment on the fact that out of the three candidates for judges of the Constitutional Court, only Jovan Jovanović received the required majority, Sattler told reporters in front of the Clinical Center of Montenegro that he regretted what happened in the Parliament, or rather, what did not happen.
He said that all stakeholders involved were aware of the importance of filling the Constitutional Court.
"This is a missed opportunity at a crucial time for Montenegro, because a few weeks ago we published an annual report on Montenegro's progress that was very encouraging and included a call to fill the seats on the Constitutional Court," said Sattler.
He said that they expect cooperation from all political actors.
"What we expected was that all political actors would cooperate, beyond political differences, to find a common solution, which did not happen," Sattler said.
Speaking about the next steps, he said that they expect all stakeholders to sit together, think about it and find a solution that can be implemented quickly.
"Because next month, another Constitutional Court judge will retire. In order for us to move forward, we expect this situation to be resolved," Satler said.
