Milatović announces public call for the election of a Constitutional Court judge

The President of Montenegro, Jakov Milatović, has announced Public Call for the election of a judge of the Constitutional Court.

"Based on Amendment XVI to the Constitution of Montenegro ('Official Gazette of Montenegro', No. 38/13) and Article 8 of the Law on the Constitutional Court of Montenegro, and in connection with the Notification of the President of the Parliament of Montenegro, No. 00-74/25-71/1 of 26 November 2025, the President of Montenegro announces a public call for the election of one judge of the Constitutional Court of Montenegro. The public call will be published in the 'Official Gazette of Montenegro' and available in the print media 'Dan', 'Vijesti' and 'Pobjeda', as well as on the website of the President of Montenegro," the statement reads.

The deadline for applying for candidates is 15 days from the date of the public call.

"We invite prominent lawyers, who meet the requirements prescribed by the Constitution of Montenegro and the Law on the Constitutional Court, to apply for the position and contribute to the selection of the best candidate," it was announced.

Three days ago, in the second round of voting, after the unsuccessful first round a month and a half ago, the Assembly elected Jovan Jovanović as a judge of the Constitutional Court, while the remaining two candidates, Mirjana Radović and Mirjana Vučinić, did not receive the support necessary to reach the same position.

Jovanović and Radović were candidates of the parliamentary Constitutional Committee, and Mirjana Vučinić was proposed by Milatović.

Milatović said two days ago that by the end of the week, when he receives official notification from the Parliament, he will announce a new call for a judge of the Constitutional Court, and that by the end of the week he will propose a candidate from the previous call for the position of Desanka Lopičić, whose term expires at the end of the year.
