The news that the police have prosecuted MP and member of the Presidency of the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) Oskar Huter, member of the Council for Citizen Control of Police Work Aida Petrović, Iva Nešić and others for misdemeanors due to the events in front of Vila Gorica during the shameful awarding of the July 13th Award, confirms that the persecution of political dissenters of the current government continues, the DPS announced today.
"With this act, in addition to the prosecution and the ASK, the police, by brutally attacking the citizens present that day, legitimized themselves as the whip of this government for a showdown with its critics who oppose everything that the liberators do to the detriment of Montenegro and its best interests. Hutter, together with numerous citizens, exercising the right to freedom of opinion, which those in power are shamelessly trying to suppress, rightly expressed dissatisfaction with the desecration of the highest state award by awarding the highest state award to a fan of fascism, a nationalist and a chauvinist. Awarding Vuković an award named after the greatest anti-fascist date in Europe is a mockery of libertarian, civic and European Montenegro - that is why the rebellion was an obligation," the DPS statement emphasizes.
The party added that they are sending a message to the current government - "you can abuse all forces, including prosecutorial, police, and media forces."
"Everything is in vain, you cannot intimidate DPS deputies and you will not stop the fight for a civil, anti-fascist and European Montenegro at any cost," said the DPS.
Huter, Petrović and Nešić are among 35 people who were prosecuted for disturbing public order in early July at a protest in front of Vila Gorica.
Nešić, the police announced yesterday, was extinguishing a cigarette ember on the protective equipment of police officers, which was recorded on video and posted on social media.
The protest took place on July 8, 2025, during the ceremony to award the July 13th Award. The Police Directorate states that an unregistered gathering of citizens was held at that time, organized by the NGO Stega, during which public order and peace were disrupted and police officers were actively attacked by the crowd.
The police announced yesterday that the state prosecutor at the Basic State Prosecutor's Office in Podgorica, after reviewing the entire case file, stated that the actions of the identified persons do not constitute the elements of a criminal offense that is being prosecuted ex officio, and that police officers appreciate the existence of misdemeanor liability of the identified participants in the event.
