Greek President Konstantinos Thassulas will pay a two-day official visit to Montenegro starting tomorrow, at the invitation of his Montenegrin counterpart Jakov Milatović.
Milatović's office announced that Tasulas' visit has special significance for Montenegro.
This, they said, is the 11th visit by the president of a European Union (EU) member state to Montenegro during Milatović's term, which confirms the increasingly intense political dialogue and growing support from European partners for our country's progress towards EU membership.
It is also emphasized that this is only Tasulas' second bilateral visit since taking office.
"Which confirms Greece's great respect for Montenegro and Milatović's role in strengthening interstate ties," the statement said.
As it is added, Montenegro and Greece have traditionally nurtured friendly relations, based on trust, cooperation and a shared vision of a European future.
The statement states that upon his arrival in Podgorica, Tasulas will be welcomed by Minister of Culture Tamara Vujović, while Milatović will hold a formal welcoming ceremony at the Residence in Cetinje.
After the meeting of the presidents of the two countries in Cetinje, they will plant a friendship tree in the courtyard of the Residence, as a symbol of the lasting ties between Montenegro and Greece.
It is stated that on the same day, Tasulas will have a meeting with the Prime Minister, Milojko Spajić.
Milatović's office said that on Thursday, with Milatović present, Tasulas will lay a wreath at the monument to the Partisan fighter in Gorica.
After that, as stated, Milatović and Tasulas will give a lecture at the Faculty of Political Sciences, as part of the EU Academy of Presidents, on the topic "From Thessaloniki to Today: A Promise Becoming a European Reality".
Milatović's cabinet also emphasized the fact that Greece will take over the presidency of the Council of the EU in the second half of 2027, during a period when Montenegro expects the final phase of the accession process.
"President Tassulas' participation in the EU Academy is a strong message of support for Montenegro's European future," the statement said.
It is added that Tasulas will also have a meeting with the Speaker of the Parliament, Andrija Mandić, on Thursday.
"This visit represents another step in strengthening cooperation between Montenegro and Greece, deepening mutual trust and confirming that Montenegro enjoys the continued and principled support of Greece on its path towards full EU membership," the statement concluded.
