German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said that work should begin with Montenegro on an accession agreement to the European Union.
He said this at a press conference with Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković, at the Chancellery in Berlin.
"I want to make it clear here: it is with Montenegro, which has probably made the most progress among the candidates, that we can now move on to the next step and start working on an accession agreement soon. This is also in our interest, because the closer we are connected, the better we can act together in Europe. This applies in particular to limiting illegal migration. For our two countries, this is of great importance," said Merz, according to the report. Deutsche Welle.
Plenković said that Croatia's principled position is to support the efforts of all its neighboring countries and that each should progress through the negotiation process in accordance with its own merits.
