The Constitution and the law must be above daily politics, and the state above personal and party interests, said the President of Montenegro, Jakov Milatović.

Today, as announced by the President's Office, he opened the exhibition "The Constitution of Montenegro from 1905 - the Foundation of Montenegrin Written Constitutionalism" at the Faculty of Law in Podgorica.

"With this act, Montenegro has entered the ranks of European constitutional states, not only symbolically, but essentially," said Milatović.

He recalled that the 1905 Constitution introduced the separation of powers, recognized civil rights, and recognized the National Assembly as the expression of the will of the citizens.

"The constitution and the law must be above daily politics, and the state above personal and party interests," said Milatović.

He emphasized that the rule of law, stable institutions and legal certainty are not just international obligations, but the foundations of Montenegro's constitutional identity.

"The most important thing is to elect the missing judges of the Constitutional Court as soon as possible and ensure the full functionality of that institution," said Milatović.

Speaking about current challenges, Milatović said that constitutional democracy is alive when it is protected in practice and when institutions work independently, legally and efficiently.

"Let us respect the Constitution, cherish the tradition of constitutionalism and defend the freedom and dignity of every citizen of Montenegro," said Milatović.

The statement states that during the celebration of the anniversary, a Memorandum of Cooperation was signed between the Office of the President of Montenegro and the Faculty of Law, which is aimed at strengthening the role of youth in social processes through the engagement of students on issues of importance for state policy.
