Montenegro is closing five negotiation chapters in negotiations with the European Union (EU) today, the Government of Montenegro announced.
"Prime Minister Milojko Spajić is translating the delegation of the Government of Montenegro which is participating today (Tuesday, December 16) at the Intergovernmental Conference in Brussels, where Montenegro will close five negotiation chapters, namely: Chapter 3 - Right of establishment and freedom to provide services, Chapter 4 - Free movement of capital, Chapter 6 - Commercial law, Chapter 11 - Agriculture and rural development, and Chapter 13 - Fisheries," the statement said.
The Government added that after the Intergovernmental Conference, which is scheduled for eight o'clock, Spajić will address the media with Enlargement Commissioner Marta Kos.
"The Government delegation will also include Deputy Prime Ministers Ervin Ibrahimović and Nik Đeljošaj, as well as Ministers Maida Gorčević, Novica Vuković and Vladimir Joković," the statement reads.
Montenegrin President Jakov Milatović announced on Sunday that he had a friendly and constructive exchange with French President Emmanuel Macron, after which Montenegro will close all five chapters at the next intergovernmental conference.
Milatović's advisor for domestic policy and economic development, Nebojša Vuksanović, also said on Sunday that only Milatović had direct communication with Macron regarding the closure of Chapters 11 and 13.
"Vijesti" announced on Saturday that the chances of Montenegro closing all five planned chapters today have significantly increased, after intensive diplomatic activities between representatives of EU member states who are advocating for the fastest possible admission of Montenegro and Podgorica on the one hand and Paris on the other.
"Vijesti" also reported at the time that the French side had indicated to Podgorica that it would give the green light to two chapters that it had blocked on Friday at the sessions of the EU Council bodies - the Council Working Group (COELA) and the Committee of Permanent Representatives of the Member States (COREPER II). These are chapters 11 (Agriculture and Rural Development) and 13 (Fisheries).
Montenegrin President Jakov Milatović wrote to French President Emmanuel Macron last Friday, seeking political support for the closure of all five chapters.
According to unofficial information from "Vijesti", Milatović did this at the initiative of the Minister of European Affairs Maida Gorčević, after she informed him that Paris had decided to block the closure of two chapters.
At the same time, representatives of the Government, led by Prime Minister Milojko Spajić, held diplomatic activities with representatives of member states.
According to unofficial information from "Vijesti", Spajić was in communication with the French President and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz.
On Friday, without prior announcements or hints, France stopped Podgorica from closing two chapters in negotiations with Brussels.
According to unofficial information from "Vijesti", the French claimed at the sessions of these bodies that the two chapters were not ready for "knitting" and that they were not sufficiently harmonized with the EU acquis, without, however, stating specific reasons for their position.
