People's safety must be above political calculations and holiday events, said Jovana Todorović, spokesperson and councilor of the Democratic People's Party (DNP) in the Budva Municipal Assembly (MA) today.
"The DNP Budva Councilors' Club fully understands the concerns of the citizens of the Old Town regarding the condition of the road located nearby, which poses a serious threat to people's safety," Todorović said in a statement.
According to her, what is additionally worrying is the complete inactivity and silence of the municipal authorities, who, despite warnings to the public and the obvious risk, are taking absolutely nothing.
The Local Community (MZ) Stari grad - Budva issued a public proclamation earlier today due to, as they warned, an extremely alarming and dangerous situation in the territory of Budva, at the ramp to the entrance to the Old Town.
"There is a real and immediate threat of the road collapsing. At the aforementioned location, deep and long longitudinal cracks in the roadway are clearly visible, which are becoming more pronounced day by day. Such damage indicates serious instability of the surface, which poses a direct threat to the safety of pedestrians, residents of the Old Town, tourists, as well as vehicles that pass this section every day," the Stari Grad Local Community said in a statement.
"While the local government is busy with holiday euphoria, marketing and celebrations, the safety of citizens and visitors has obviously been put on the back burner. We consider such an attitude to be extremely irresponsible and dangerous, as there is a real possibility of the road collapsing, which could lead to a serious tragedy," Todorović stressed in a statement.
She said that it is particularly alarming that this road is located in the immediate vicinity of the Old Town, in one of the busiest locations in Budva, where a large number of citizens move around every day, and in the coming days a huge number of people are expected to arrive for the holidays.
"Despite this, the authorities from the Municipality of Budva are not showing even a minimum of responsibility to react urgently and prevent the potential threat to human lives. Because of all of the above, we publicly call on the municipal authorities and all competent institutions to immediately stop ignoring the problem and without delay take all necessary measures and urgently secure and rehabilitate the terrain in order to ensure the safety of citizens and tourists," said Todorović.
She added that, if inaction continues, responsibility for possible consequences will not be abstract, but will have a clear address.
