The Democratic People's Party (DNP) strongly condemns the shameful, spiteful and politically motivated behavior of Podgorica Mayor Saša Mujović, who suspended the president of Free Montenegro Vladislav Dajković from his job just because he had the courage to support the citizens of Zeta and Botun in their justified fight for a healthy environment, the DNP announced today.
"This action represents a brutal abuse of office and a dangerous precedent, because it clearly sends a message that anyone who raises their voice against bad decisions by the authorities will be punished. Suspending a man because he came to support citizens who are peacefully protesting against the threat to their health and lives is an act of political repression, not responsible administration. Mujović's behavior is especially hypocritical if we know that cafes in the city center are full of municipal employees who spend hours drinking coffee during working hours, while regularly receiving salaries financed by citizens. No one has ever been suspended or sanctioned for such behavior, which has become an open secret," the DNP statement said.
The party, led by Milan Knežević, added that they fully support Dajković, "because that day he did what any man with a conscience would do."
"We are telling Mayor Mujović that Podgorica is not a private company or a single-minded political barracks, but a city of all citizens. We will not remain silent in the face of injustice. We will not agree to intimidation. And we will not allow humanity to be punished, while demonstrations of force and arrogance are rewarded. The Democratic People's Party will, together with the citizens, continue the fight for justice, freedom and dignity of every person in Montenegro," the DNP statement reads.
Yesterday, Podgorica Mayor Saša Mujović made a decision to initiate disciplinary proceedings and a decision to suspend Dajković until the completion of those proceedings, due to suspicion that he committed a serious breach of official duty.
Dajković said at a press conference today that Free Montenegro is no longer part of the government in Podgorica, and that he was removed because he supported the Serbs in Zeta.
Mujović also confirmed to reporters today that he will dismiss Dajković if the Disciplinary Commission of the Government of Montenegro determines Dajković's responsibility.
Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić also commented on Dajković's case today, saying that the authorities in Podgorica clearly did not like Dajković's behavior and that is why they are removing him.
