The President of the Municipality of Budva, Nikola Jovanović, sent a congratulatory message to all citizens of Budva on the occasion of the Orthodox New Year, stating that the donation to the Metropolitanate of Montenegro and the Littoral for the construction of the Temple of Saint Mark is one of the most significant.
"On the occasion of the Orthodox New Year, I send you my sincere and heartfelt congratulations, with the wish that 2026 will bring health, peace, personal happiness and family joy to every home. May the new year be a time of new beginnings, strengthened faith in shared values and readiness to build a better and more just society together. On the threshold of this year, Budva is taking an important step forward. By adopting the budget of the Budva Municipality for 2026, a significant step forward has been made towards reconciliation, stability and social cohesion," Jovanović said in a message he posted on the social network Facebook.
It is particularly important, as he emphasized, to highlight the decision on the donation to the Metropolitanate of Montenegro and the Littoral, which, as he stated, created concrete conditions for the start of the construction of the Temple of Saint Mark in Budva.
"This decision has a much broader meaning than the investment itself; it represents a symbol of readiness for dialogue, mutual respect and the renewal of trust. St. Mark's Church will be a place of gathering, spirituality and peace, but also a permanent reminder that only through harmony, understanding and respect for diversity can a stable and successful community be built. It is precisely such messages that we need today more than ever," said Jovanović.
He said that the message of "unity, harmony and reconciliation is the best way to step into 2026, with the belief that Budva has the strength to overcome divisions and to be a city that brings together, connects and looks to the future."
"May the new year be a year of dialogue, solidarity and shared progress, for the good of all citizens. Happy and blessed Orthodox New Year," concluded Jovanović.
The Municipality of Budva and the Metropolitanate of Montenegro and the Littoral signed an agreement on the construction of the Temple of Saint Mark on November 11th last year.
The agreement was then signed in the Cetinje Monastery by Metropolitan Joanikije of Montenegro and the Littoral and Jovanović.
