The shameless and personal name-calling directed at our councilor Elza Numanović via social media represents the lowest form of political communication and a clear indicator of the powerlessness of those who use them, the DPS Bijelo Polje Municipal Board announced.
"When arguments, a program, and answers to specific questions are lacking, individuals opt for insults and personal disqualifications in the digital space, believing that the anonymity or speed of social networks justifies irresponsible behavior. It is particularly worrying that such attacks are often directed at women in politics, with the aim of discouraging and silencing them. Our councilor acted in her public and parliamentary activities with arguments, responsibly, and in the interest of citizens. Instead of a political response to the positions expressed, she faced insults on social networks, which says more about the authors of these messages than about those to whom they were addressed," DPS Bijelo Polje announced.
They add that they are clearly sending out a message that social media is not and must not be a space for lynching, targeting, and attempts to intimidate political dissenters.
"We will not respond to such pressures by withdrawing, but by fighting even harder for a decent and well-argued public dialogue. Our councilor has the full and unequivocal support of the party. Politics is guided by ideas and responsibility - not insults and comments on social media," the statement reads.
