The President of the Democratic Party of Serbia, Srđan Milivojević, appealed to the citizens of Montenegro, and especially those, as he said, who belong to the Serbian entity, not to allow certain self-proclaimed leaders of alleged Serbian parties to abuse them with the intention of provoking incidents and stopping Montenegro on the path to European integration.
"Montenegro's membership in the European Union is of crucial importance for Serbs in Montenegro and for all other citizens living in this country, just as it is of vital interest for the Republic of Serbia. Those who, even after 35 years, are reaching for a radical arsenal of hatred, conflict and everyday meanness, in order to defend some allegedly endangered national interests, are gambling with the European certainty of all people living in the territory of sovereign Montenegro, treacherously abusing national feelings, for the sake of achieving some of their long-lost political goals," Milivojević said.
He added that provoking conflict even to laypeople seems like it was ordered by the shaken rulers in Belgrade, who have been ruling according to this model for decades, using the familiar mantra: 'Now you have found yourself destroying our government in Serbia while doing this to the Serbian people in the region'.
"That policy in the past, where it belongs, has produced catastrophic consequences not only for Serbs, but for all the peoples of the Western Balkans. It is clear to everyone that the representatives of the regime on the verge of collapse in Serbia, in a vain attempt to preserve their power, are ready to sacrifice people, incite conflicts and trade key national interests for the umpteenth time. I especially remind those who, in order to come to power in Montenegro, declared themselves fighters against the mafia, that they should not then be a service to the government that is in Serbia to the point of being suffocated by organized crime. I am not talking about such a character of the government in Serbia as the president of the opposition pro-European Democratic Party, but the numerous indictments of the Prosecutor's Office for organized crime against the current ministers from the Serbian government," said Milivojević.
He emphasized that it is in the interest of Serbia, and of him as the president of the Democratic Party, that wherever Serbs live, they enjoy full rights, a dignified and safe life, and conditions that lead to personal and family prosperity.
"Just as many Serbs have chosen to achieve this quality of life in Paris, Vienna and any other European capital, I believe that they have unequivocally decided to have such living conditions in any city in Montenegro. A historic struggle of good against evil is currently underway in Serbia. Soon, all institutions of Serbia will be freed from political violence and control by organized crime that has usurped the Serbian state. Serbia's return to the community of European nations will be quite certain and also unquestionable. Only such a Serbia, free and upright, without the mafia creating its policies, can be a true motherland and a state that cares about its people wherever they live, protecting them with its reputation and proclaimed values. I am sure that European Montenegro will be the first to extend a welcoming hand to Serbia when together we achieve our common future in Europe, where we have always belonged," Milivojević emphasized.
