Several open initiatives awaiting action clearly indicate the need for the Inquiry Committee to accelerate its work and demonstrate full institutional responsibility and efficiency, said Momčilo Leković, a member of the Inquiry Committee and a member of the Democratic Party.
"Given that the last session of the Inquiry Committee was held in early December last year, I expect that a new session will be convened and held no later than the beginning of February, at which statements will be taken from Ibrahim Čikić and Blagoje Zlatičanin. Therefore, I call on the president of this committee to schedule a new session as soon as possible," he said in a press release.
Leković recalled that Gordan Stojović, a member of the Inquiry Committee from the Europe Now Movement (PES), had proposed in August or November last year that statements be taken from the aforementioned individuals.
"The fact that months later we are still in the waiting phase definitely does not send a good message to the public and may call into question the very operability of the Committee. It is also important to emphasize that this is not the only initiative that is pending. Last year, I also submitted an initiative to hear Ivica Janović, Dejan Vukšić, Dejan Peruničić, Boris Milić and Dragomir Ćalasan, in connection with allegations about the existence and destruction of documentation in the ANB, as well as broader issues concerning the work of security structures in the case of the murder of Duško Jovanović," said the Democratic MP.
He emphasized that the members of the Inquiry Committee have an obligation to demonstrate that the Parliament is capable of seriously, decisively and transparently dealing with issues of the utmost national and social importance.
