The threats made on social media to MP and DPS Vice President Ivan Vuković and MP and DPS Presidency member Oskar Hutter and his family are a devastating reflection of the unhealthy atmosphere that has been created in society, the Democratic Party of Socialists (DPS) announced.
"We consider criticism legitimate, because we believe that healthy criticism can only grow, but we clearly emphasize that threats, insults, and hate speech in the digital space are not something we should accept as normality and regularity, especially not when the families of officials are openly targeted with threats," the party said in a statement.
It is added that the environment we currently live in in Montenegro sends the message that everything is allowed, but it is not and should not be, especially not when trying to instill fear in someone's children.
"Therefore, the competent authorities must demonstrate greater efficiency in the field of establishing the identity and adequately sanctioning those who use social media in a way that threatens to endanger someone's safety and, ultimately, life. Finally, we would like to say that the daily threats to our officials will not intimidate us or stop us from our plan to stop the moral decline of society and the decline of Montenegro," the statement concludes.
