Making threatening comments and using the symbolism of ethnic expulsion and collective suffering due to disagreement with political views are unacceptable manifestations of political pressure on a freely expressed position in public space, which undermine social cohesion and fundamental values and human rights.
This is stated in a statement by the Protector of Human Rights and Freedoms regarding the chauvinistic and openly threatening message sent to SNP MP Slađana Kaluđerović.
"Since the symbolism of the 'tractor' is deeply rooted in collective memory as a sign of persecution and forced displacement of Serbs, threats of intimidation, expulsion or evoking collective traumas represent an unacceptable form of hate speech, based on ethnicity and abuse of freedom of expression. The threats to MP Kaluđerović are part of a pattern of gender-based political violence, in which women who participate in the public and political life of Montenegro are disproportionately exposed to threats, insults and attempts at intimidation," it was announced.
They add that this is not an isolated case, and that threats have recently been made to DPS MP Ivan Vuković and some other political figures.
"Which indicates the worrying continuity of the use of unacceptable rhetoric, which we condemn on this occasion as well. We call on the competent institutions to take all measures to protect the rights, safety and dignity of all actors in public life, regardless of their political stance, gender or ethnicity," it was announced.
