The findings of the Ministry of Public Administration (MPA), which indicate that the conditions have been met to shorten the mandate of the Kotor Municipal Assembly (MA), confirmed the justification of the initiative to dissolve the parliament submitted by DPS councilors together with councilors from the European Union and the Croatian Civic Initiative, the DPS Kotor municipal board announced.
The DPS reminded that their caucus of councilors in the Kotor Municipal Assembly launched an initiative to dissolve the local parliament due to, as they said, a gross violation of the Law on Local Self-Government, which is reflected in the fact that Vladimir Jokić was not elected as the Mayor of the Municipality within the prescribed period.
"Despite his loud attempts to deceive the public, in an effort to, through force and shame and open violation of the law, preserve the office of the first man of Kotor, it is clear as day that Jokić is usurping the function of the mayor of the municipality, and therefore all the decisions he made are questionable. Although it remains a mystery how the findings were only delivered to the councilors' clubs today, and that the President of the Assembly, Vojin Batuta, already expressed his opinion on the same on February 6, through a letter sent to the MPA, we call on local authorities to stop playing games and return to respecting the law," the statement reads.
The Kotor DPS said they are demanding that an Assembly session be scheduled at which, in accordance with the instructions of the MPA, the proposal for the dissolution of the Kotor Parliament will be discussed.
"If those in power refuse to schedule it, the opposition will carry out all necessary procedures to schedule the session, because under no circumstances will we allow them to openly violate the Constitution and laws, render meaningless the electoral will of citizens, and collapse the local self-government system," the statement concludes.
